SBA Preferred Lender

The Small Business Administration (SBA) created the Preferred Lenders Program (PLP) as an important step toward streamlining the procedures for providing financial assistance to the small business community.

Qualifying for Preferred Lender status is not easy. A lender must have a solid history in its dealings with the Agency. The lender's proficiency in processing and servicing SBA loans is a critical factor in the Agency's decision.

The SBA looks at three lender qualities before granting Preferred status:

  1. The lender's ability to process, close, service and liquidate loans
  2. The lender's ability to develop and analyze complete loan packages
  3. The lender's performance history with SBA

Preferred Lenders are granted a designated area in which they may make PLP loans. Status is granted for two years, after which the lender must apply for recertificaiton.
